Fabulous Christmas

So Christmas day came and went, and it was good. A nice and calm Christmas, no drama, it was great :). I made one of my younger brothers a dammit doll and he loved it! My family got a good laugh out of it.

The only slight disappointment was the gift I spend a few weeks working on for one of my friends. I knit her a whole set from one of Claire Crompton's books: a scarf, hat and fingerless gloves, only to find out she'll be moving to Texas in a few weeks! Jajaja. I gave it to her anyway, that's what happens for having spontaneous and adventurous friends.

Wooot Wooot!

It's almost Christmas!!! I can't even wait! And you know what I love the mostest? NO SNOW! It's winter wonderland perfect :)

Christmas Part Deux

Alright so here's what I have recently found out, and trust me I am shocked that it took this long, but I have been knitting wrong the whole time! Literally! My knit stitches are all wrong! And where did I figure this wonderful fact out? While knitting a Christmas gift of course! You can tell in the picture where I begain knitting "correctly".
I was always taught that the knit stitch was done through the back of the loop, but nope it's through the front of the loop! No wonder my stitches never looked quite the same. Oh well, lesson learned. :(

On a diff note, I sewed up some quick Christmas Stockings from old sweaters I bought from our local second hand store. They're pretty cute :D, for my first try that is.

Christmas!

OK so I have to be honest here, I'm actually looking forward to this Christmas :). Even if I am incredibly broke and won't be able to buy the presents I would like to give, I'll get to spend it with ALL the people that I love the most.

I'm actually attempting to make my Christmas presents this year, however my medium is yarn aka knitting and it's taking me longer than I thought. I am not a fast knitter at all but then again it doesn't help that I started mid November, ha ha.

I also tried to sew up a quick sympathy doll, and the poor thing is so pathetic. I'm going to attempt it again tomorrow. Wish me luck!

Twisted

Recently I quit my job, the one I hated so much because I got really tired of doing other people's job for them. So then I had to make a bunch of "life choices" as my brother calls them, that I hated making. And now here I am, the last place I thought I would come back to. And now I have another job, which I start next Tuesday, but I just can't seem to be happy about it. There is something seriously wrong with my brain and I don't know how to fix it.

Notes of Silence

So I somehow got it into my head that I wanted to learn how to play a guitar. I have never in my life even picked one up, let alone play one. I managed to get a nice beginner's guitar for super cheap from Kijiji, my new favourite browsing site. Now if only I could get it to tune properly that would be great. And really since I just got my nails done, I don't think I'll be trimming them down anytime soon to be able to play the notes. So for now I'm just happy with how pretty it looks in my room.

Knitting Needle Roll

I haven't been on here for a while so I thought I would blog about something I made a while ago: a knitting needle roll.

I was browsing through the net trying to find a storing solution for my expanding knitting needle collection when I stumbled upon the "Multicrafty" blog. (http://multicrafty.blogspot.com/2007/09/knitting-needle-case-tutorial.html) I love it, and it was so easy to make, I even made one for my mom, and a smaller version for her crochet hooks! Tell me what you think :)

My Birthday Present!

So, I don't mean to brag, but I just got the best/coolest present ever! A Bamboo tablet! I can't wait to get started on editing so many photos that I took in Guatemala with much more ease and efficiency than it was taking me to do with just your standard mouse.

I've yet to get used to it but I love it already! I think my crafting days will be put on hold for a bit while I play with my new digital toy.

On a different note, last weekend I made a trip to Toronto with some friends and my brother and I visited the coolest art supply store ever! "Currys" not only is jam packed with TONS of cool art stuffs, but the prices are by far the best I've seen yet. My brother was able to pick up two 24x20 gallery style canvases for $18!

I might post some of my edite Guatemala photos later on, but for now back to my new toy!

India Fest

This weekend I went to yet another festivel. I must say I really love this city for that. During the summer there is always something to see or do on the weekends. Of course, nothing even remotely close to Toronto, but still nice.

Anyway, this weekend it was the India Fest. It was the first time that they held it outside, instead of inside the Covent Market, and it was nice. Not as many booths as I would have liked, but the entertainment was good, as was the food! Especially the Mango Lassi. I don't know if any of you have tried it, but if you haven't please do! It's simply delicious! I found a recipe on the foodnetwork so that you could try it too. If you don't have access to fresh mango, you can use mango pulp instead.

Mango Lassi by Jamie Oliver
Yield: 4

This Indian drink is like a mango milkshake and is delicious.

Ingredients:
Mango Lassi

* 255 ml plain yogurt
* 130 ml milk
* 3 mango, stone removed, sliced
* 4 tsp sugar, to taste
* salt, (optional)
* cardamom, seeds, (optional)

Directions:
Mango Lassi

1. Put all the ingredients into a blender and blend for 2 minutes, then pour into individual glasses, and serve.
2. Feel free to try salt and cardamom seeds.
3. The lassi can be kept refrigerated for up to 24 hours.

Please try!!

On a different note, I have a friend who recently found out I do a bit of sewing on the side, and said she would love something that I've sewn. That's all fine and good, but I have no idea what to make! I know I want to sew something easy, quick and something that doesn't cost an arm and a leg. Any ideas? All would be very welcome :)

Retail Experiences

So I think the time has come to say a few things about retail and customers. I don't know if any of you have read the comic strip Retail but it is exactly what we associates go through day in and day out. I love that comic strip! But what I really wish is that people would read that strip and take it as a hint of how NOT to act.

Case in point, the place where I work, which shall remain nameless, to protect the guilty...has a print centre and all the services that that entails. And so I have the "pleasure" of meeting all sorts of people. The one day a lady and her daughter come in to fax some documents, I direct them to the appropriate machine, point out the instructions and let them know that if they still need help just to call me over.

Let me take a moment to just say how ridicously busy this particular print centre is, so busy in fact that sometimes I'm at the counter for one hour before I can even begin producing any orders. Oh and did I forget to mention the fact that there is only ONE person working there at a time. That would be taking orders, producing them, helping people who just want to chat, others who have an insane amount of questions and then don't want to actually buy anything, those who yell at me cause I can't run their order THIS second, even though there are, literally 20 people, lined up behind them waiting to place an order and I have at least 15 orders on que.....phew!

Anyway, back to my story...the mother calls me over, no wait I mean, yells "HEY YOU!! I NEED HELP"....ummm..thanks...last time I checked I have a name, and unless we were born on different planets, there is such a thing as being polite. Anyway, so I walk over, and she immediately begins yelling at me, because of course, it's MY fault that, number one she doesn't know how to use a fax, number two the receiving end is busy and three one of her pages is double sided so she needs to make a copy of it...umm did I miss something. Anyway, I stand there as she yells at me for 5 minutes straight.

I guess what I'm trying to convey is one simple, simple, simple message: EVERYONE'S LIFE SUCKS! DON'T TAKE OUT YOUR SHITTY DAY ON ME.

Eat Pray Love

So I thought that maybe today's blog was going to be about the Latin/Italian fest that happened yesterday at the local market, but since that never ended up happening, (that is a whole story on it's own, all I have to say is: oh, the joys that come along with relationships) I thought I would write about a novel I just recently finished reading.

Eat, Pray, Love: So this was a completely unplanned read, it was actually left behind at work and never claimed so I thought I would put it to good use. So basically this book is about a woman, Elizabeth Gilbert, who has had a really crappy time lately and is trying to find herself again. It's divided into 3 parts, one for each location she visits and spends 4 months in, Italy, India and Indonesia.

For the first third of the book, I was actually interested, well, mainly cause all she talked about was food...yummie! But then it slowly went down hill. I mean it was an alright book overall, but meh....I'm glad I didn't spend my money on it, I'll just say that. It's basically her going on and on and on about how crappy her life is....but really who doesn't? jaja...anyway...If anyone wants the book, they are welcome to it, cause it'll just collect dust on my shelf.

Sewing Adventures

So I spent a part of my Saturday buying fabric for a sewing project and the rest making it. The project? Sweat pants for my boyfriend (who by the way has asked me why I haven't mentioned him thus far in my blogs! jaja) So, even though I've never sewn a single article of clothing in my life, and even though I'm sure I made plenty of sewing faux pas, I must say that they came out pretty good. He loved them and has asked for another pair. :) By the way, since fabric land was having a sale, I spent only 4$ on this pants, pretty sweet, considering also that I managed to find the actual pattern for the pants at Value Village a while back for maybe 3$.

All in all I'm pretty darn proud of me :). I might get motivated enough to take a picture of N in them.

Strawberry Picking

Today was a perfect day, if such things exist. My parents came up to visit me, so we decided to have brunch at one of the "local" farms. My buttermilk pancakes were AMAZING! After brunch we went strawberry picking in the farm's fields. The strawberries were absolutely beautiful. So big, sweet and juicy. We picked for about an hour and by the end we had a ridiculous amount of strawberries. No idea what I'm going to do with my share! Maybe it's because of my hard work, but I've never tasted better strawberries.

Wow

Apparently age really doesn't mean anything...that or some people make snitching out others their personal mission. So apparently I am no longer allowed to vent frustrations about work or managers without having to have a meeting with said person afterwards?? Can I say high school drama? Honestly, is it too much to ask someone to keep their mouth shut?!

Lord give me the strength to keep up with this charade...**sigh**

Weekends

I never thought there would come a time when I would literally live for the weekends. I go about the week in a zombie state, just trying to get through the days and come alive on the weekends.

Please someone tell me this is not the beginning of the rest of my life. AHHHH! :P

Hmm....

So I recently started back at work, the same place I swore I would never go back to. And in a matter of hours I realized what a huge mistake I had made. Life likes to play nasty jokes sometimes. I don't think it's very funny.

Let the job searching begin!
